Travel Tips: Capsule Hotels

An off-beat alternative to business hotels, capsule hotels (カプセルホテル kapuseru hoteru) take living small to the EXTREME! Here you can sleep in a capsule that is roughly 6.5 ft x 3.3 ft x 4 ft (2 m x 1 m x 1.2 m) in dimensions. There are communal bathrooms and amenities and these hotels are primarily used by hung-over businessmen (though some hotels have female accommodations too). The primary advantage of these hotels is the low price tag, ranging from ¥2,000 to ¥5,000 per night (approx. $20-$50). It’s funky, fun, and very Japanese!
