If you need to get somewhere in a hurry and don’t mind paying a little extra, taxis are the way to go. They are efficient, but expensive. And in some rural areas they are the only way to get around besides an infrequent bus. They are also the only way to get around after regular public transportation shuts down after midnight.
The usual fare for a taxi is between ¥600-¥700 for the first two kilometers and increases by ¥100 for every 500 meters. During the night (10 PM to 5 AM), these prices usually increase (even though they’re not supposed to). When using a taxi, the back door will open and close automatically so don’t try to open or close the door. Also, tipping the driver is considered unnecessary since the service fee is included in the fare.
