Culture Note: Animation Events in Japan

In addition to the anime conventions held all over the world from the United States to Europe, there are animation events happening in Japan is well Below is a list of some of the biggest events to try to catch if your in Japan at the right time!

Tokyo International Animation Fair (東京国際アニメフェア) is an annual even highlighting animation in which many products designed by both professionals and amateurs are exhibited. It’s one of the largest anime trade shows in the world. Besides being an international trade fair, the TAF includes related events such as business symposia and other events. Notably, the Tokyo Anime Awards are given for domestic and foreign creations and creators in the event with the name of the event. The event takes place in March and is held at the Tokyo Big Sight. Comiket (Comic Market, コミケット) is held twice a year in Tokyo, boast 35,000 Dojinshi (self-published comics) publishing circles and many attendees. The event takes place in both August and December and is held at the Tokyo Big Sight. For more information, visit: http://www.comiket.co.jp/index_e.html

Tokyo Game Show (東京ゲームショウ) is the biggest computer entertainment show in teh world. It is presented by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) and the Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. The main focus is Japanese games although it is used by a few international video game developers to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware as well.
